Luftansa ripped one of the straps off of my backpack while it was lost. I didn't think Germans were supposed to be capable of losing anything.

We traveled by train past Carrara, where the white marble is mined.

We got off at the wrong station in La Spezia, so we had to wait 50 minutes for the next one to La Spezia Centrale.

We arrived in Monterosso just as the rain was passing.

A small hike into the town square and we arrived at our B&B "La Poesia".

We made reservations at Ciak and then walked around the small town.

Sheep pottery

I don't know what this means, but they have a cool logo.

Beth is trying to decide what kind of seafood to try.

She opts for a massive bowl of seafood pasta.

I had the fried seafood assortment. The calamari was great.

For dessert, a gelato with whiskey and honey.

The Italian version of flan always seemed to be a bit burnt.

This guy works in the pretty kitchen while the bigger kitchen works harder behind the scenes.

Ciak restaurant (ristoranteciak.it) is famous around here for their seafood.

We met these filipinos that owned a shop in town. She moved to Monterosso 25 years ago and started bringing her family. The 17 or so filipinos you see in town are all relatives of hers.

Through this whole vacation we have been really happy to not hear much car traffic noise at all. Florence had some during the day, but was very quiet at night. Venice and the Cinque Terre are barely accessible by car.

Monterosso only has about 6000 residents and the retail/dining part of town consists of about 4 streets like this.
